CENTERED IN SUSTAINABILITY

GREEN STATEMENT

Rebuilt with the intention to withstand generations of enjoyment, the ideals behind the design, construction, and operation of Cedar Crest Cottages are centered in sustainability.

  • The onsite hosts reduce emissions and traffic by not traveling to and from work, consolidating trips and carpooling as often as is practical.

  • We ask guests to help conserve water and energy by reusing towels and bedding. Towels and bedding can be replaced upon request.

  • Locally produced bath amenities delivered in bulk are available for guest use in refillable, Upcyclable containers.

  • Notepads in the units are made using recycled material.

  • Guests are encouraged to recycle with recycle bins provided in each cottage.

  • Guests are encouraged to leave their cottage after closing windows and turning off all lights and unused appliances (such as coffee makers, etc.).

  • The site conforms to Tahoe Regional Planning Agency coverage and water run-off management practices to protect Lake Tahoe’s water quality and clarity.

  • Landscaping features drought tolerant, native plants and the astro-turf lawn requires little maintenance.

  • Scrap stone was used for the flatwork and veneer.

  • The Owl Cottage was moved from a lakefront parcel where it was scheduled to be demolished and hauled to the dump for disposal.

  • Wood flooring was designed and engineered in a local fabrication shop using scrap material. Most of the floors have been finished with a natural vegetable oil-based finish that is free of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).

  • Countertops are engineered quartz certified safe for food preparation with their non-porous surface resisting bacterial growth.

  • Stone bathroom tile was selected from remnant stock.

  • All interior surfaces were painted with a Benjamin Moore professional-grade paint that is also free of VOCs. It is designated with their Green Promise® seal assuring consumers that it meets and exceeds industry environmental standards.

  • Doors and windows were sealed with a water-based, low-VOC coating and provide energy efficiency with double paned construction.

  • Insulation and radiant heating increase overall energy efficiency of each cottage.

  • Sun Valley Bronze finish hardware for cabinets, doors and windows contains a minimum of 91% pre-consumer recycled content conforming to the SCS Recycled Content Standard V4-1.

  • All appliances are Energy Star® labeled.

  • Energy efficient LED lighting in all cottages.

  • Dual flush toilets and low flow fixtures reduce water usage.

  • Low-profile ceiling fans are a more energy efficient alternative to air conditioning in Lake Tahoe’s mild climate.

  • Leather sofas are made in the U.S.A. with certified sustainable, kiln-dried engineered hardwood and full-grain genuine leather.

  • Most of the wood components of the custom furnishings were crafted in a local shop from scrap material.
